The beginnings of a Counterburn Standard deck.

I'm not 100% on the FOF Metagame, but I figure a counterburn deck could make trouble for Conscription and maybe hold off Jund long enough.

No sideboard yet. Here's the first draft of the tentative decklist:

SPELLS (32):
2 Negate
4 Cancel
2 Essence Scatter
2 Dispel
3 Ponder
2 Twincast
3 Unsummon

4 Lightning Bolt
4 Forked Bolt
4 Burst Lightning
2 Fireball

CREATURES (6):

3 Raging Goblin
3 Sage Owl

LANDS (22):

2 Terramorphic Expanse
15 Island
5 Mountain

Raging Goblin --> Goblin Guide

Maybe toss in 2 Ball Lightnings for quick damage and to draw hate from their removal.

I'd still be fearful of Jund's cascading and the man-lands. Man-lands in general are going to draw your removal even if you're countering all of their creatures.

Cancel should prob be replaced with deprive. Many low cost spells and the options presented with lower cost spells is worth the land removal.

and where is swerve? and double negative, i mean that is why you play red/blue counters while shards is still in existence.

I agree with Alex on most of the points, with the exception of siege-gang. There would be 6 creatures in this deck, with jund removal, non would ever stand a chance and that card is too expensive, and so it shouldn't be main bored-ed.

the ponder to treasure hunt is good but i prefer, see beyond. that has a lot to do with choice and feeling though.

Punishing Fire for Forked Bolt. I say this because as a main board card it needs to be able to deal with a verity of netdecks and vamps in one, and they do love their life gain.

I am sorry if i missed it by the way, how does this deck eventually win, in this 5 turn standard?

I haven't played tested this but looking at it i feel like this deck is what planes walker control, usa control, and polymorph decks are, without the turn five win conditions, which make them playable, and yes i realize planesw doesn't win on 5, but it will have it set up created by than if it will.

so definitely a great skeleton for the deck, but it needs a reason to exist.
